THE ART FORM
Why Plein Air?
En plein air is a French expression meaning "in the open air," and it describes the practice of painting outdoors. This approach revolutionized art in the 19th century when the Impressionists— Monet, Renoir, Pissarro—took their canvases outside to capture light and atmosphere directly from nature.
Today, plein air painting remains one of the most rewarding ways to connect with your surroundings. It challenges you to observe carefully, work quickly, and embrace the unexpected—whether that's changing light, shifting weather, or curious onlookers.
There's something profoundly satisfying about creating art in the very place that inspires it. The sights, sounds, and sensations of being outdoors become part of the creative process itself.
